Bible Reading: 2 Kings 22:1-2 & 23:1-3
In 2 Kings 22:1 & 22 we read, “Josiah was eight years old when he became king…He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the ways of his father David, not turning
aside to the right or to the left.”
Josiah was only eight years old when he became king, but he was a good king. Josiah loved God and saw to it that the people of his kingdom knew what God’s word said. Josiah insisted that God’s word be read to the people. Once the people knew what God expected of them, Josiah saw to it that the people followed and obeyed God’s instructions so that God would be pleased with them.
This young man was able to do all of this because God was with him. God was an important, inseparable part of Josiah’s life. God gave Josiah all of the wisdom and know-how he needed to do the job God gave him to do.
God has given each one of us a job to do, too. That is our “calling.” If you aren’t sure what job has God called you to do, ask Him to help you understand what He wants you to do. Then rely on Him to give you the wisdom and know-how that you need to do that job. Follow the urging of Peter in 2 Peter 1:10 and “be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall.”
God can, and will, use anyone who give Jesus control of his or her heart and life.
“Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.” 1 Corinthians 1:26 – 29
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’ll do the job you’ve chosen for me. Thank You for giving me everything that I need to do it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
