Wednesday at the Well: Romans 5:1-11 - A Question of Mercy

Bible Verses to Explore: Romans 5:1-11

Today’s Bible reading tells us about God’s mercy. Verse 8 of our reading says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

We were sinners. We deserved death and separation from God but God was merciful. Instead of giving us the punishment we deserve, God showed us love and compassion. That is mercy.

It is important to remember that God was merciful to us while we were still sinners.” He didn’t wait for us to love Him first. God showed us mercy for our sins even when we didn’t deserve it.

God isn’t the only one who can be merciful. In truth, God expects us to be merciful because He was merciful to us. Whenever someone is in need, we are to be merciful. Whenever someone is having a

hard time, we are to be merciful. Whenever there is a person who has wronged us, we are to be merciful. God even expects us to be merciful to our enemies.

How long is our mercy toward others to last?

God’s mercy is never-ending. Our mercy should also be never-ending as well.

Let’s thank God for His mercy.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy. We know that Matthew 5:7 gives us this promise: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” Help us to show mercy to others just as you have shown and continue to show mercy to us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
