Wednesday at the well: Psalm 98:4-6 - Why was music invented?

Bible Verses to Explore: Psalm 98:4-6

Do you like music? Most of us do. God likes music, too. After all, he created us with our own built-in musical instruments – our voices. He also gave people the knowledge to

invent musical instruments and to write beautiful songs.

Why do you think he did that? Today's Bible reading gives us a hint. These verses read, “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—shout for joy before the Lord, the King.’

God gave us music for many reasons. The main reason is so that we could honor God with our voices.

God also gave us music so we could build up and encourage people, fill our minds with beautiful, godly thoughts, have a way to share God’s love with others, have a way to express our delight in God’s creation, have a way to share our love with others, have a way to thank God. We can also use music to celebrate our happiness and be comforted when we’re sad or hurting.

God gave us music to enrich our lives. What a wonderful gift! Let’s all do as the psalmist in Psalm 96:1 did and “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, may the music we choose to listen to please and honor You. May we use our voices every day to give glory to Your name. In Jesus' name. Amen.
