Bible Verses to Explore: Psalm 50:19-21
Have you ever said anything untrue or unkind about another person? Today's Bible reading tells us that God will punish people who say things that are untrue or unkind
about other people.
Lies, gossip, and other unkind words can cause much damage to a person. They can destroy a person's reputation. They can ruin friendships. They can cause scars in a person's heart and mind that may never go away.
God gave us one simple rule about saying false or unkind things about other people. This rule is found in Leviticus 19:16. This verse says, “You must not go around spreading false stories against other people. Don't do anything that would put your neighbor's life in danger. I am the Lord.”
God also gave us one simple rule about what to do it someone has said something false or unkind about us. 1 Corinthians 4:13 tells us, “When people say bad things about us, we try to say something that will help them.” Also, Exodus 20:16 talks about lying right in the Ten Commandments saying, “You must not tell lies about other people.” That’s pretty blunt. There’s no question about what that means!
I hope you will think carefully before you say anything about anyone from now on. God will bless you for treating others with kindness, honesty, and respect.
Shall we pray?
Heavenly Father, remind us not to say false or unkind things about other people. Help us answer kindly those who have spoken lies or mean things about me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
