Bible Verses to Explore: Psalm 119:9-16 ERV
King David wrote Psalm 119. In this psalm, David says the words such as study, meditate, delight, learn, search, and other words that relate to deep, intense study of
God’s word. For example, verse 15 says, “I will study your instructions. I will give thought to your way of life.” David knew it was important to study the Bible, God’s message to us. When we know and understand God’s word, we can obey it and not sin.
Studying the Bible can seem hard. Sometimes we aren’t sure where to start or we struggle to understand the verses we read.
Sometimes it is easier to study the Bible with a friend. First, the two of you can read a Bible passage or watch it on DVD together. Then you can talk about what you’ve read.
Ask each other questions like, “Who wrote these verses?” “Who were these verses written to?” What is happening in these verses?” How are these verses important in our lives?” What does God want us to learn from these verses?” What can we do to show God that we understand these verses and want to obey their teaching?”
I hope you study God’s word every day. I hope, like David, you say to God, “I enjoy your laws. I will not forget your word” (verse 16) and“I study your teachings very carefully so that I will not sin against you.” (verse 11).
Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, keep us from neglecting Your word. Help us study it every day, learn what it has to teach us, and find practical ways to apply those lessons to our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
