Wednesday at the Well: Matthew 7:3 - Examine Yourself

Bible Verses to Explore: Matthew 7:3

Do you know a person wh

o has some annoying habits? Probably. Most of us know someone like that.

We also know that people won’t give up annoying habits just because we want them to give up those habits.

If we really love someone, we must except that person just the way he or she is. We can’t expect that person to change just to please us.

We also need to understand that we have habits that annoy other people, too. In Matthew 7:3 Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Before we worry about the

annoying habits of our friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers, we need to recognize and deal with our own annoying habits. We need to examine ourselves and make changes in our own lives.

Paul gives us these instruction in 2 Corinthians 13:5 – “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” Let’s all determine to follow Paul’s instructions and examine our lives every day. Ask yourself, “What changes you need to make in order to be a better friend, family member, neighbor, co-worker, and disciple of Jesus Christ.” Also, ask God to help you make those changes and to help you except other people as they are.

Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, help us to see anything we are doing that is keeping us from being like Jesus. Help us to stop doing those things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
