Bible Verses to Explore: Matthew 5:14-16
There is an old expression that says, “Opposites attract.” That expression means that a man and a woman with very different personalities will be drawn to each other. That
may or may not be true, but I know that opposites don't always attract.
For example, let's look at light and dark.
Light brightens our path. Dark stops us from seeing the path. Light helps us see things in our way. Dark stops us from seeing things. Light helps us see directional signs. Dark can cause us to lose our way. Light helps others follow us to our destination. Dark separates us from those we’d like to help.
Spiritually, Jesus is the Light that shows us the path to heaven that he created for us to follow.
Satan and sin are the dark that keep us from seeing the path or cause us to stumble and lose our way.
Verse 14a in our Bible reading says, “You are the light that shines for the world to see.” Once we have Jesus in our lives, we are to light the path to heaven for others to follow.
Are you a light that leads people to Jesus Christ?
I hope so. Ask God to help you to obey His command found in Matthew 5:26: “You should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.”
Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, help us light the way to You for our family, our friends, and our community. In Jesus' name. Amen.
