Wednesday at the Well: Joshua 22:9-30 - Are You a Rebel?

Bible Verses to Explore: Joshua 22:9-18, 21-27, & 30

In verse 18 today’s Bible reading, Eleazar & the chief priests of Israel who lived on the west side of the Jordan River asked the tribes who had settled in Gilead on the east

side of the Jordan River, “And are you now turning away from the LORD?”

The Israelite tribes in Gilead were building an altar. Eleazar and the leaders of the Israelites who lived across the Jordan River thought this altar was being built to be used to worship false gods.

The leaders in Gilead explained that the altar was built to be a witness between them and the rest of the Israelites. The people of Gilead wanted everyone to know that they weren’t rebelling against God. They weren’t trying to do things their own way. They wanted everyone to

know that they served only the one true God.

We need to be like the people from Gilead. We need to always let God control our lives. We need to be sure that our choices honor God and not ourselves. We need to obey God in all things. We need to let everyone know that we live only for the one true God.

Ask yourself the following questions to see if you are rebelling against God’s will or if you are truly honoring God with your life:

Do you want to have things your way?

Do you tell God, “I can handle this on my own?”

Have you refused to let God take control of your life?

If you are “running your own show?”

Is your motto, “Look out for #1?”

If you have done any of those things, you are a rebel.

“I haven’t told God those things!” you say?

Maybe you haven’t used those words, but what are your actions saying?

Do you go to places that God wouldn’t approve of?

Do you listen to music that says things that God dislikes?

Do you watch TV shows or movies that have messages that are the opposite of what the Bible teaches?

Do you use words that you would be ashamed for God to hear?

Do you play computer or video games that portray hatred and violence?

Do you allow yourself to think or say or do anything that would make God unhappy, embarrassed, or ashamed of you?

I hope the things you do and the places you go honor God. I hope you honor God with your whole life!

“You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!” (Psalm 22:23)

Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, help us to always honor You with our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
