Wednesday at the Well: John 4:4-38 - Starting Point

Bible Verses to Explore: John 4:4-38

Jesus always paid attention to people. He noticed what they were doing. He learned what was important to the people around him. Then Jesus used the things he learned

about people as a starting point for teaching them about God and his gift of salvation. John 4 shows us two examples.

First, in John 4:4-26 we read about the woman at the well: “A Samaritan woman came to the well to get some water, and Jesus said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’ This happened while his followers were in town buying some food” (verses 7 & 8). This woman had to walk a great distance for water. Jesus understood that water was important to her. Jesus offered her “living water.”

Second, in John 4:27-38 we read that the disciples that tried to get Jesus to eat some food. Jesus understood that food was important to the disciples. He used food to teach the disciples that doing God’s work is more satisfying than food. In verse 35 Jesus said, “My food is to do what the one who sent me wants me to do. My food is to finish the work that he gave me to do.”

We can learn from Jesus' example. When we want to tell people about Jesus we need to look around us. We need to learn what is important to them. When we understand what is important to them, we can use that knowledge as a starting point talking to those people about Jesus.

Please pray with me.

Heavenly Father, open our eyes. Help us to see what is happening around me. Help us to see the people around us that need Jesus and help us to see them as You see them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you will download the Inductive Study Guide and allow God to teach you more about how to really see people as He sees them.

God bless!
