Wednesday at the Well: Jeremiah 17:9-10 - Changed Heart

Bible Verses to Explore: Jeremiah 17:9-10

Jeremiah 17:9 describes the human heart and mind without Jesus Christ. This verse says, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?"

Without Jesus, the human heart and mind are filled with foolishness and sin. It is selfish. It seeks to hurt others. It is without faith and hope.

After we welcome Jesus into our lives by admitting our awfulness and asking His forgiveness, our heart and mind change. We begin to become wise. We start to hate sin and want to avoid it. We begin thinking about others and how to help them. We trust God to lead us, teach us, and help us. We have hope of a better life here on earth and for eternal life in heaven.

How does a person’s heart change so dramatically? When a person accepts Jesus, the person gives up living to serve himself and allows Jesus live through him.

Psalm 51:9 & 10 is an excellent pair of verses to use as a prayer asking God to take control of our hearts and to make our hearts pure, clean, and holy. Let’s pluralize those verses and pray them together:

Heavenly Father,“Hide your face from our sins and blot out all our iniquity. Create in each of us a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within each of our hearts.” Transform our hearts from hearts of stone to hearts of flesh, soft and usable by You so we can live to please You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I hope you will go now and continue God’s softness in your heart, allowing Him to make Your heart new, pure, clean, and usable by God.
