Wednesday at the Well: Genesis 50:20 - Victim or Victor?

Bible Verses to Explore: Genesis 50:20

Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery because they were jealous of him. Later he was put into prison. He hadn’t done anything wrong.

Do you think Joseph was a victim?

Some people think Joseph was a victim.

Joseph saw his life differently. Joseph told his brothers, It is true that you planned to do something bad to me. But really, God was planning good things. God’s plan was to use me to save the lives of many people. And that is what happened.”

Joseph saw his life as a life of victory. Joseph saw the bad things that happened to him as God’s way of using Joseph to bring about a great victory God and His people.

Joseph saw the good in the bad. Joseph was a victor, not a victim.

How about you? Do you complain and whine about the bad things that happen in your life? Do you blame God for them?

OR

Do you look for the good – God’s plan – behind those bad things? Remember Paul’s message in Romans 8:28 – “We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. These are the people God chose, because that was his plan.”

Are you a victim or a victor?

Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, open our eyes so we can see Your good plan in the bad events in our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
