Bible Verses to Explore: Exodus 4:11
Did you know that everyone has a blind spot? Even people with 20/20 vision. Those blind spots are the places where the nerves enter each eye from the brain. That is the
only place in the eye that light cannot reflect. (There is an experiment that you can try at http://www.moillusions.com/find-your-blind-spot-trick that will let you find your blind spot.)
If we aren’t careful, we can develop blind spots in our Christian life. We conveniently become unable to see our own flaws, weaknesses, and sins. When we blind ourselves to those things, we can avoid dealing with them. Our “blindness” makes it possible for us to keep doing things that we know to be wrong.
How can we identify and remove our spiritual blind spots?
We can start by asking ourselves a few questions:
* What character flaws do I have?
*What do I need to stop doing in order to become more like Jesus?
* What sins am I not seeing because I’ve blinded myself to them by choosing to ignore them and how serious they really are?
In Exodus 4:11 God said, “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD?” God gave us our physical sight. He will give us spiritual sight, too. The best way to get rid of our spiritual blind spots is to ask God to open our eyes and heal our spiritual blindness. We should ask Him to help us see our weaknesses so we can confess them to Him and allow Him to strengthen those weak areas in our lives by forgiving our sins and helping us to grow spiritually.
One thing God uses to remove our spiritual blind spots is His word. As we spend time reading, meditating, studying, and memorizing the Bible, God teaches us and opens our eyes to the truths and precepts in it, which Psalm 19:8 says “are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.” Then God helps us apply those truths and precepts to our lives. As we live God’s way, more and more of our blind spots will be removed and we will, gradually, become more and more like Jesus. How wonderful!
Would you please pray with me?
Heavenly Father, give us a passion for Your word. Help us to dig deep into its truths and precepts. Us it to open our eyes and remove our spiritual blind spots so we can grow spiritually and live lives that please, glorify, and honor You and Your Son, Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
