Wednesday at the Well: Exodus 20:3 - What Has First Place in Your Life?

Bible Verses to Explore: Exodus 20:3

Exodus 20:3 says, “You shall have no other gods before me.”

With whom or with what do you spend most of your time? Do you love that person or activity

more than anyone or anything else in the world? How would you feel if for some reason you were no longer able to be with that person or do that activity? Is that person or activity so important to you that you think that you couldn’t live without him (or her) or it? Would God approve of the way you think about that person or activity? Does that person or activity take away from the time that you spend (or should spend) with God? Do you spend so much time with this person or activity that you have little or no time left to serve others? Has that person or activity become an idol in your life, receiving the admiration and respect that you should be giving to God alone?

What are you going to do about it? I hope you will keep what Jesus said in Luke 4:8 firmly in mind: “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only,’” and I pray that you have your priorities in the right order and that God is #1 on your list.

Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, take first place in each of our lives. Help us to keep our priorities in the right order, with You at the top of the list! In Jesus' name. Amen.
