Wednesday at the Well: Acts 8:9-25 - Are You a True Christian?

Bible Verses to Explore: Acts 8:9-25

Our Bible reading talks about a man named Simon. Simon was a magician. He pretended to be a Christian. He followed the apostles. He listened to them preach. He

associated with believers. He was even baptized. But, when it came right down to it, he was a fake. Simon was not a true Christian. He was only pretending to obey the apostles teaching so he could earn money. At one point, after watching people receive the Holy Spirit at the apostles touch, Simon went to the apostles, offered them money and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” Simon never sincerely asked God to forgive him. Simon never truly accepted Jesus’ free gift of salvation. Simon was after what would benefit Simon.

Are you a true Christian?

Have you asked God to forgive your sins? Have you accepted Jesus’ free gift of salvation? If not, you are like Simon. You need to stop pretending to obey God, ask Jesus to forgive and save you, and become a true Christian.

Why?

“My purpose in telling you to do this is to promote love—the kind of love shown by those whose thoughts are pure, who do what they know is right, and whose faith in God is real.” I Timothy 1:5

Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, forgive us. We want Jesus. We want to be a true Christians. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
