Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Timothy 6:6
Think of someone you admire. Do you wish you were more like that person? Do you think that person is prettier or more handsome than you are? Do you wish you had that
person’s clothes (or looked the way he or she looks in them)? Do you wish you had that person’s car, video games, hair, body, parents, job, boyfriend or girlfriend?
If you would like to have even one of those things, you are envious.
If you had that one thing, would you truly be content? Would you really “never ask for another thing?”
No matter what we have, we always seem to find something bigger, better, prettier, or faster that we think we must have to be truly happy.
Do you have a hole in your life that you are trying to fill by collecting more and more things or by trying to look more and more like someone else?
You will never fill that hole with things. That hole is meant to be filled by Jesus’ Spirit. The Holy Spirit does more that just fill the hole in our hearts. He enables us to live a godly life, a contented life, a life filled with many benefits and blessings from God. That’s exactly what 1 Timothy 6:6 tells us: “But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
I pray that you will accept Jesus into your life and allow His Holy Spirit to fill the hole in your heart so you can reap the benefits of the godly, contented life God wants you to enjoy. I also pray that, as Paul prayed in Philippians 1:9-11, “…your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”
Jesus, send your Spirit to fill the hole in our hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
