Wednesday at the Well: 1 Timothy 4:1-16 - Live as an Authentic Christian

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Timothy 4:1-16

In 1 Timothy 4, Paul was encouraging Timothy to be strong and consistent in his faith and service to God. Timothy was a young man. That presented challenges as he

led older men.

Paul gave Timothy this advice: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity” (vs. 12). Timothy was a Christian. Paul wanted Timothy to live and act at all times in ways that proved his faith. By doing so, Timothy would be the leader that God wanted him to be.

Being a Christian means that you behave and live like Jesus wants you to behave and live at all times and in all places. I encourage you to examine your life. Ask yourself:

“Am I living and acting in Christian ways at home, at school, at work, on vacation, at the mall, when I’m driving? I’m I living as a Christian on Monday through Saturday and not just for an hour on Sunday mornings?”

Be certain you are living a Christian life in private and in public. A genuine, full-time faith and consistent Christian words and actions is the best way to lead the people around you to Jesus. As Paul advised Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:15 & 16, “Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”

Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, teach us to live as real, genuine, authentic Christ-followers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thanks for spending a little time in God’s word with me. It means more than I can say.
