Wednesday at the Well: 1 Thessalonians 5:22-24 - T-Shirts

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Thessalonians 5:22-24

When you wear a T-shirt with the name of a specific place on it, people assume that you’ve been there.

When you wear a T-shirt with a specific sports team on it, people assume that you are a fan of that team.

When you wear a T-shirt with a particular singer or music group on it, people assume that you listen to that music and agree with the message in the lyrics.

You can buy T-shirts with all kinds of slogans on them. The words and pictures on T-shirts are like a snapshot of who you are. They are like a message to others of what you feel is important.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 warns us, “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” (KJV) As followers of Jesus, we need to be careful what we do, what we say, where we go. Even the appearance that we are doing something displeasing to God can have a devastating effect on our testimony for God and can damage our efforts to win people to Christ.

What kind of message are you sending?

What kind of message does God want you to send?

This prayer, which Paul prayed for the people of Thessalonica in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, is my prayer for each of you:

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Let’s pray together now. Heavenly Father, help us to remain blameless until Jesus comes. Sanctify us, setting us apart for Your special use, and fill us with Your peace. Guide our choices so that the message I send to others, though our words, actions, and even the clothes we wear music we listen to be the message that You want us to send. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
