Wednesday at the Well: 1 Samuel 15:23 - Who Do You Trust?

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Samuel 15:23

1 Samuel 15:23 reads, ‘For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.’ Do you think that verse isn’t for you because you don’t worship idols and

you’ve never heard of divination let alone done it?

Think again.

Have you ever looked at (or peeked at) your horoscope?

Have you ever listened to an astrologer predict the future by looking at the alignment of the stars or planets?

Have you ever ‘played’ with a ouiji board, taro cards, palm reading, or other ‘fortune telling’ items to ‘see:’ into the future?

If you have done any of those things, you have participated in divination.

Those things all work under the assumption that something besides the True God is in control of the universe. That ‘something’ is other gods that supposedly show men their actions through the alignment of the stars and planets.

Those things also show that the participant is putting his or her trust in something other than God.

According to the above verse, God says doing any of those things is the same as rebelling against God.

Have you rebelled against God or are you depending on Him to take care of you? Can you wholeheartedly say with Solomon, ‘I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the Lord’ (Proverbs 31:6)?

Who or what are you trusting with your life?

Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, I really believe that you are in control of my life and the universe. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
