Wednesday at the Well: 1 Peter 4:12-19 - Persecution

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Peter 4:12-19

In many countries a person can have his house burned down, his job taken away, or be denied drinking water just because he is a Christian! People around the world are being

beaten, tortured, raped, imprisoned, and murdered because they believe in Jesus.

Jesus said these things would happen to people who believe in Him. In Matthew 24:9 Jesus said, “You will be arrested and handed over to be punished and killed. People all over the world will hate you because you believe in me.”

In verse 14 Paul said "When people say bad things to you because you follow Christ consider it a blessing. When that happens, it shows that God's Spirit, the Spirit of glory, is with you."

How should we respond to persecution? Don't be ashamed (verse 14). Praise God for Jesus’ name (verse 14). Trust God (verse 19). Continue to do good (verse 19). Pray for

Christians who are suffering because they believe in Jesus (Hebrews 13:3). Pray for ourselves. James 5:13a says, “Are you having troubles? You should pray."” Ask God to give you courage. Ask God to help you to always remain faithful to Him.

Remember, no matter what happens, God promised, “I will never leave you; I will never run away from you” (Deuteronomy 31:6), and “But if you suffer because you are a ‘Christ follower,’ don't be ashamed. You should praise God for that name” (1 Peter 4:16).

Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, protect your children all around the world. Help me to always be faithful to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
