Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Peter 1:5-7
Have you ever seen a rock tumbler? A rock tumbler is used to change rough rocks into smooth, polished stones. The smooth stones are used to make jewelry. The rock is
placed in a tumbler with grit. The tumbler is turned on and the rock bounces around with the grit for several days. Then the grit is replaced and the rock is tumbled again for several more days. This is repeated a third time. Finally, the rocks become smooth, shiny stones. The stones are ready to be made into beautiful jewelry.
Rocks must spend those weeks rubbing against the rough, irritating grit in the tumbler or the rocks won’t change into polished stones. The rocks would stay rough, coarse, and ugly.
We are like those rocks. Life's grit-- trouble, sickness, hurtful words, and other “gritty” situations -- polishes us and smooths our rough. 1 Peter 1:7 says, "These troubles test your faith and prove that it is pure." Life's grit causes our faith to grow. It makes us more like Jesus.
Are you being tumbled in life's grit right now? Remember the words of the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 1:7, “These troubles test your faith and prove that it is pure. And such faith is worth more than gold. Gold can be proved to be pure by fire, but gold will ruin. When your faith is proven to be pure, the result will be praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ comes,” and keep your eyes on Jesus. Ask Him to help you to be patient. Ask Him to make you strong. Life's grit will change you. It will help your faith grow. It will make you more like Jesus.
Will you please pray with me? Heavenly Father, give us patience and strength to endure life's grit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
