Bible Verses to Explore: 1 John 5:17
God has given us specific instructions. These instructions explain what God expects us to do and not to do. God expects us to obey those instructions.
Why?
God knows what is best for us. God’s instructions are there to help us have the best life possible. It is always best for us to follow God’s instructions.
When we ignore or disobey God’s instructions, that is sin.
Today’s Bible reading says, “Doing wrong is always sin.” That means three things. One, sin is doing anything that God says is wrong. Two, sin is not doing the things that God says we should do. Three, sin is living as if God doesn’t exist or as if God doesn’t matter.
None of us can perfectly obey all of God’s instructions all the time. No matter how hard we try, we all sin. Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and are not good enough to share God’s divine greatness.”
That is why we need Jesus.
Jesus followed all of God’s instructions perfectly. Then he died on the cross to take the punishment we deserve for not obeying perfectly. Romans 6:12 says, “But don’t let sin control your life here on earth. You must not be ruled by the things your sinful self makes you want to do” and the presence of Jesus and His Holy Spirit in our lives is how we live this kind of free-from-sin lifestyle.
I hope you will ask God to forgive your sins then let Jesus’ Holy Spirit help you follow God’s instructions from now on.
Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, we want Your Spirit to help us follow Your instructions from now on. Thank You for His presence in our lives through our faith in Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
