Bible Reading: Romans 12:21
How do you react when someone has treated you unfairly, cheated you, wrongly accused you, or taken advantage of you?
Romans 12:21 describes the reaction that God wants us to have saying
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” How can we do that? Here are some ideas for overcoming evil with good when you are being treated unfairly:
* Don’t blame God for the person’s behavior. Instead, take your complaint against that person to God and leave it to Him to mete out justice.
* Respect the person and his or her property.
* Ask God to bless the person – to send good things his or her way.
* Sincerely empathize with the person when he or she is treated unfairly.
* Do whatever you can to help take care of that person’s physical needs.
* Treat that person with genuine love.
* Do good, kind things for the person; treat him or her fairly.
* Be happy when the person has success, gets good news, or accepts Christ.
Treating “unfair” people God’s way isn’t letting yourself be victimized. It’s making a conscious choice to leave justice to God.
“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” Luke 6:27 & 28
Prayer: Heavenly Father, empower me to leave justice to You and respond to unfairness Your way.
