Bible Reading: 1 Peter 1:13
1 Peter 1:13 says, “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.” (Emphasis
added.)
“Therefore” seems to be such a stuffy, formal sounding word, but, in the Bible “therefore” often follows important information and proceeds a call to action. In other words, when you see the word “therefore”, plan to do something. Be on the lookout for a specific action that God wants you to take. We are to take what we’ve learned in that passage and do something. For example, in the following passages “therefore” is followed by the command to –
* “Honor God” (1 Corinthians 6:20)
* “Flee idolatry” (1 Corinthians 10:14)
* “Stand firm” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
* “Don’t lose heart” (2 Corinthians 4:16)
* “Come out and be separate” (2 Corinthians 8:24)
* “Do good” (Galatians 6:10)
* “Don’t be discouraged” (Ephesians 3:13)
* “Put off falsehood” (Ephesians 4:25)
* “Don’t be foolish” (Ephesians 5:17)
* “Put on the Armor of God” (Ephesians 6:13)
* “Encourage on another” (1 Thessalonians 4:18)
* “Get rid of moral filth” (James 1:21)
You’ve read this tip, therefore – do something for God!
“Jesus [said], ‘Go and do likewise.’” Luke 10:37b
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’ve accepted You as my Savior; therefore, I will worship and obey You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
