Bible Reading: Romans 8:26
Often we stumble along in our prayers searching for the right words to express our feelings and needs to God. At such times, Romans 8:26 is encouraging. This verse
says, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” It’s reassuring to remember that the Holy Spirit is there, being sure that God knows exactly what we are trying to say.
That is only one of the many things that the Holy Spirit does for us. He also seals our salvation for eternity (2 Corinthians 1:21, 22). The Holy Spirit purifies us (Galatians 5:16). He gives us wisdom (Ephesians 1:17). He gives us access to God (Ephesians 2:18-22). The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin (1 Thessalonians 1:4, 5). He distributes spiritual gifts (Hebrews 2:4). He yearns over us (James 4:5). He testifies of Christ (1 John 5:6). The Holy Spirit also comforts us (John 15:26), counsels us (John 14:16), empowers us (Acts 1:8), gives us the right words to say when we need them (2 Samuel 23:2), and sets us apart for God’s work (2 Thessalonians 2:13).
Thank God for the precious gift of the Holy Spirit!
“And I [Jesus] will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:16 & 17
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me your Holy Spirit. It would be impossible for me to serve You without Him. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
