The Crucifying Power of Words

Bible Reading: Mark 15:13

Words have a lot of power. The words of the crowd in Jerusalem, “Crucify him!” caused some leaders in that city to fear for their jobs. The crowd’s words drove Jesus’

disciples into hiding for fear of losing their lives. The crowd’s words led directly to the cross on a hill called Golgotha and Jesus’ death.

While the words that we let escape our mouths each day may not lead to the physical death of another person, they can still cause severe damage. If we don’t use great care in choosing our words, our words can crush the spirit of another person. Our words can destroy others’ desire to know Jesus. Our words can demolish the hearts and souls of those around us.

A little thought, a bit of time spent reading the Bible, and a few minutes seeking God’s advice before we speak can prevent us from crucifying others with our words.

How much thought do you put into the words you speak each day?

“Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.” Proverbs 21:23 (ESV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be careful of everything I say. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
