The 4 P's of Submitting to God

Bible Reading: Matthew 26:39

Jesus never expects us to do anything that He, Himself, doesn’t do. Submitting to God is no different. In Matthew 26:39, we read what is probably the greatest example of

submitting to God that ever occurred – Jesus willing submitting to God’s plan to crucify Jesus on the cross. This verse says, “Going a little farther, he [Jesus] fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.’”

Submission doesn’t mean allowing you have to become a doormat. To willingly submit is an act of strength, character, and integrity. It is an action taken freely, without complaint or argument.

When we choose to submit to God, to give up our way for His way, we’re telling God that we believe that He knows what is best for us and that we trust Him. Choosing to submit includes choosing to accept God’s protection, care, and provision. We in essence ban bad from our lives and let good in.

Submitting to God is admitting that, since our feelings change so often, our emotions can’t be trusted and are an unreliable gauge for making wise decisions. Instead, because God can be trusted, we make our choices based upon what God tells us to do or not do.

God wants us to submit to Him, but He won’t force us to submit. He gives us the freedom to say, “Yes,” or “No,” to Him.

Below are Four P’s of Submitting to God:

* Priorities: Put Christ first.

* Pray: Talk to God before making any decisions.

* Ponder: Read your Bible so that you’ll know what God expects of you.

* Practice: Obey God’s instructions.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” 1 Peter 5:6

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to make the Four P’s a priority in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
