Bible Verses to Explore: Isaiah 58:9-11
Stress can be positive. When we ride a roller coaster or watch a ballgame with a close score, we feel excitement. That is an example of positive stress.
Stress can also be negative. It can make us tired. It can make us sick. When we are in a car accident or when someone we love dies, we experience negative stress.
Today's Bible reading teaches us a few ways to relieve the effects of stress. Verses 9 and 10 say, "...call to the Lord..." and "Help those who are troubled and satisfy their needs."
Those verses mean that we need to learn to focus on God, not our problems. They also teach that we should we should think less about our problems and focus more on
helping other people solve their problems.
Some of the other stress relief ideas in the Bible include: Change our thoughts (Philippians 4:8). Give God our worries (I Peter 5:7). Go to God for rest (Matthew 11:28). Praise God (Psalm 100:1). Read the Bible for strength and encouragement (Joshua 1:8). Thank God for everything (I Thessalonians 5:18).
I hope you will go to God for help the next time you feel stressed. When you do, God will bless you. I love the imagery of Isaiah 58:10b & 11. These verses give a beautiful description of the blessings given to those who honor and obey God and share his love and compassion with others. Here’s what these verses say: “Help those who are troubled and satisfy their needs. Then your light will shine in the darkness. You will be like the bright sunshine at noon. The Lord will always lead you and satisfy your soul in dry lands. He will give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring that never goes dry.”
Let’s pray together. Father God, thank You for being there when we need You. Help us to be there to help others when they are in need. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
