Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:45-49
1 Corinthians 15:45 and 49 tell us that we resembled two men: “So it is written: ‘The first man Adam became a living being’; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit…And just as
we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.
First, as a human being, we all resemble our original ancestor, Adam. Our physical bodies all have eyes, ears, mouths, arms, and legs, just like Adam’s body, and, like Adam, we have all sinned. Adam passed on the habit of sin to us as a natural human trait just as he passed on the human traits of having two eyes and one nose. Like Adam’s body, our bodies are weak and susceptible to sickness, injury, and eventually death. Thus we resemble Adam, the earthly man.
Second, as Christians, we will all have spiritual bodies that resemble Jesus’ spiritual body. While we don’t know exactly what those spiritual bodies will look like, we do know that once we have them we will no longer get sick or be injured. We won’t need glasses nor get cavities in our teeth and we will live forever! That means we also resemble Jesus, the man from heaven.
Thank God for these two resemblances.
“The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.” 1 Corinthians 15: 47 & 48
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the body You gave me to live in here on earth, and for the spiritual body that I will receive in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
