Spiritual Clothes

Bible Reading: 1 Peter 3:3, 4

Why do you choose to where the clothes that you wear?

You probably want to look good and feel comfortable. You likely consider what you like

as well as what you think other people will be likely to compliment you for wearing.

Much more important than what other people think about how we look on the outside is how they feel about how we look on the inside. That’s exactly what Peter said in today’s Bible reading: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.”

With what kinds of things are you “dressing” your heart and mind? When other people look at you do they see the beauty of a gentle spirit? A kind heart? A joyful eagerness to help others? Do they see purity? Humility? Meekness? A passion to worship and serve God? Would other people describe your soul as loving, peaceful, patient, good, faithful, and self-controlled?

Take some time right now to reevaluate your “spiritual clothes.”

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to give my heart and mind a spiritual makeover and redress them in godly spiritual clothes. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
