Bible Reading: Philippians 2:3-11
Do you often (or even occasionally) think thoughts that include words like “I”, “me”, or “mine”? Do you compare your or your words or actions to some other person? Do you
usually come out on top? Do you focus on your likes, your dislikes, or your wants?
Those thoughts are examples of selfish thinking.
If you have Christ’s Holy Spirit in your heart and are trying to live to please Him, you n You should obey the words of Philippians 2:4, “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” and work to eliminate selfish thinking from your mind.
One way to do that is to replace each selfish thought with a selfless thought. Replace “I,” “me,” and “my” with words like “you”, “your”, “they”, or “their.” Look for uniqueness in yourself and others. Offer sincere compliments to others about their positive qualities. Focus on the likes, dislikes, and wants of other people. Look for ways to honor the feelings of other people. Turn your eyes and your thoughts away from yourself and focus first on God then on other people.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” Philippians 2:3
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me respect and admiration for other people and their uniqueness. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
