Bible Verses to Explore: Luke 8:5-11
Seeds are fascinating little things. Each kind of seed contains everything it needs to grow a specific plant or tree. Only one kind of plant can be grown from a specific seed.
Marigold seeds won’t grow oak trees, and acorns won’t grow marigolds.
In verse 11 of today’s Bible reading, Jesus said, “This is what the story means: The seed is God’s teaching.” In the story Jesus told He was using seeds to explain spiritual things. Jesus wants us to be sure that we planted God’s word in our hearts.
If you want to grow Christ-like qualities in your life, you must fill the rich soil of your heart and mind with the seeds of God’s Word. Every word you read from the Bible plants another seed that will grow into Christ-like qualities.
If you are planting seeds like hate, anger, impatience, and impurity in your heart and mind that is the kind of person you grow to be. Planting those seeds cannot and will not grow into Christ-likeness any more than planting acorns will grow in to marigolds.
I hope you keep the words of Philippians 4:8 & 9 in mind as you are planting in your heart and mind: “Brothers and sisters, continue to think about what is good and worthy of praise. Think about what is true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. And do what you learned and received from me—what I told you and what you saw me do. And the God who gives peace will be with you.”
Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, help us choose the best seeds to plant in our hearts and minds. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
