Second Birth

Bible Reading: Titus 3:4-6

Birth – the beginning of life. Everything is new, beautiful, exciting, and intriguing. The newborn is able to look forward to an entire lifetime of God’s blessings with eager

anticipation. That was God’s plan when He created us.

However, Satan had a different plan. His plan was to ensure his own pleasure at our expense. As a result, our life on this earth is marred by the presence of sin from the moment we are born. We have no hope of having the beautiful, fulfilling life that God planned for us. No hope, that is, without Jesus.

When we believe that Jesus died for us, we are born again. Titus 3:4-6 explains it this way: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior.” This second birth restores us to the life that God intended for us to have. We become new. We have a fresh start, a second chance to look forward to an entire lifetime – an eternal lifetime – of God’s blessings with eager anticipation.

“…Jesus declared, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’” John 3:3

Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive my sins and give me a second chance at life through Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
