Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 15:23
1 Samuel 15:23 clearly explains God opinion on rebellion: “For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the
LORD, he has rejected you as king.”
When we rebel against God, we deny God’s authority. In other words we are arrogantly saying, “God, I’m in charge. I don’t believe that you have the right to tell me what to do. I can make my own decisions about what to do and how to live my life. I don’t need you.” We are also giving power to something other than God. We’re saying that we can handle everything in our lives on our own. We have enough power on our own, so we don’t need God.
When we toy with things like ouija boards, horoscopes, taro cards, astrology, witchcraft, we are doing the same thing as rebelling against God. We are saying to God, “I’m in charge. I don’t need you.”
We’re also giving power that belongs to God to some other thing. We are saying that the stars, some cards, a board, or some other inanimate object is wiser and more powerful than God is.
Who – or what – are you letting direct your life?
To whom – or what – are you giving power and control over your present and your future?
“If you love me, you will obey what I command.” John 14:15
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You truly are the One and Only God, My Lord, My Savior, My God. I will let You be in charge and will give You the power over my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
