Purity & Marriage

Bible Reading: Hebrews 13:4

God created us to be sexual beings. He wanted us to enjoy sex. If we obey God’s teaching and keep our sexual activity sacred within marriage, sex is enjoyable. In fact,

marriage and sex within marriage honor God.

In addition, Hebrews 13:4 tells us that “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”

To help us keep marriage and the marriage bed pure, God has given us some rules regarding sexual behavior. The Bible gives specific times when sex is wrong. Leviticus 18 teaches that homosexuality and lesbianism are sin. Exodus 20:14 and Leviticus 20:10 teach that any sexual activity before marriage or outside of marriage is sin. It doesn’t matter if we “love” the person or if we “plan to get married,” all sex outside of marriage is sin. There are no exceptions.

Thankfully, sexual sin, like all sin, is forgivable. If you have broken God’s rules concerning sex, go to Him. Tell Him you are sorry. He will forgive you and give you the opportunity to begin obeying Him right now. He’ll also give you the strength to obey Him, if you ask Him.

“It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3 & 4

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to remain pure so that my life will honor You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
