On the Job Training

Bible Reading: Judges 3:1-2

When a person is hired to a job, he often receives “on the job training”. Even if the job required years of formal classroom education – like being a teacher or a doctor – some

on the job training is still necessary to get the new employee familiar with the specific policies and procedures of the employer.

God also provides us with on the job training as well. For example, Judges 3:1 & 2 say, “These are the nations the LORD left to test all those Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan (he did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience).” God knew that the Israelites needed to learn how to protect and defend themselves and their families. Therefore, God didn’t destroy all of the evil nations around Israel. He left them there for the Israelites to deal with.

We learn much about God and about what God wants us to do from sermons, Bible studies, and Sunday school classes. However, there are many things about relating to other people, sharing the gospel, and relating with God that God teaches us using the events – good and bad – in our everyday lives.

We have a lot to learn. Are you paying attention?

“Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.” Psalm 25:13

Prayer: Heavenly Father, use every moment of every day to train me to better do Your work. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
