Bible Reading: Genesis 21:10
No family is perfect. We sometimes convince ourselves that if our family isn’t always content, always there for one another, always happy, always understanding
and forgiving…then our family isn’t normal. We then tell ourselves that if our family isn’t perfect, then there is no way that God could use us to do His work.
In reality, God tells us about many families in the Bible and none of them were perfect.
For example, Abram and Sarai quarreled. During one of these quarrels, Sarai spoke to Abram saying, “Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me.” On top of that, Abram’s two wives, Sarai, and Hagar, were jealous of one another.
Joseph’s family is another example of the Bible’s less than perfect families. Joseph’s brother’s plotted to kill him.
Then there were twin brothers, Jacob & Esau. Jacob and Esau bickered, cheated, and deceived each other.
Not to mention that Cain murdered his brother, Abel because of jealousy and envy.
Even Jesus’ brothers resented him and refused, at first, to believe that He was the Son of God.
My family isn’t perfect and neither is yours, but, that’s okay because God loves us all anyway. Somehow, He is always able to accomplish His plans for us in spite of the imperfections of our families – and us.
“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I love my family, even though they aren’t perfect. Thank You for them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
