Bible Reading: Psalm 10:4
Do you always have to have the last word?
Are you convinced that your way is the only way?
Do you believe that whatever someone else can do, you can do better?
Do you live in a world of superlatives – that whatever you have, say, do, or even think is the biggest, best, most ingenious…?
If you do any of these things, even part of the time, you are suffering from PRIDE. Not the “I did a good job” kind of pride, but the “It’s my way or the highway” kind of pride.
Pride – or arrogance – keeps many people from giving their lives to Jesus because proud people can’t bring themselves to admit that they aren’t good enough to get to heaven. Psalm 10:4 says, “In his pride the wicked does not seek him [God]; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”
Pride also keeps many Christians from fully serving God and experiencing the rich rewards God has for them because proud Christians try to do things using only their own strength and smarts. They forget or refuse to go to God for help.
Does any of this describe you?
What are you going to do about it?
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3
Prayer: Heavenly Father, empty me of myself and fill me with your Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
