Bible Reading: Luke 10:38-42
We’ve heard a lot about Martha complaining to Jesus about her sister, Mary’s, “laziness” and Jesus’ informing Martha that Mary had made the better choice by choosing to sit
and listen to Jesus teach.
Have you ever noticed Mary’s reaction to this scene? Verse 39 says, “She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.” As far as we can see in scripture, Mary’s eyes never left Jesus’ face. She listened only to Jesus’ voice and never verbally defended herself. Her body never moved from her place at Jesus’ feet.
How do you respond when people criticize your faith in Christ, your determination to study the Bible, your commitment to pray continually, your desire to spend time with the Lord in church, Sunday school, or other services? Do you give in to their pressure or do you keep your eyes on Jesus’ face, your ears tuned to Jesus’ voice and your body leaning eagerly toward His so as not to miss a thing?
“Son of man, listen carefully and take to heart all the words I speak to you.” Ezekiel 3:10
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be like Mary and choose what is better. I don’t want to miss a thing that You have to say. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
