Live as if heaven were only a heartbeat away

Bible Reading: Matthew 25:31-46

If you knew that you only had one week to live, how would you spend that week? What would you do? What would you not do? With whom would you want to spend that time?

Are the things that you would choose to do the same things that God would want you to do?

None of us knows exactly how many days, weeks, months, or years we have left to live here on earth. However, God has told us of the certainty of the life to come after our days here on earth are done For example, in Matthew 25:46 Jesus warned, “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” If Jesus is our Lord and Savior, that life will be eternal bliss, spent in heaven with God. Without Jesus, our “eternal life” will actually be eternal death – forever being separated from God.

Are you ready for Jesus’ return? Are you ready to enter eternal life? Remember, “…keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come” (Matthew 24:42). Regardless of whether we have one week or many years left to live, we need to be living as if eternity was only a heartbeat away.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world’...Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’” Matthew 25:34 & 41

Prayer: Heavenly Father, make my choices in this life wise so that I will be prepared for the eternal life to come. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
