Bible Reading: Matthew 27:14a
Have you ever been accused of doing something that you didn’t do?
You aren’t alone. Jesus was wrongly accused, too. Those who didn’t believe that Jesus
was the Son of God accused Him of lying about who He was. They accused Him of blasphemy – claiming to be God. In fact, Jesus never made any false claims; He truly was the Son of God. The accusations against Him were unfounded.
However, Jesus didn’t blame his accusers. He didn’t claim to be a victim. He didn’t whine or complain or look for sympathy. Jesus realized that false accusations were a part of doing the job that God had sent Him to do. So, Jesus kept His mind on the task that God had given Him to do and left it to God to deal with His accusers. Even as Jesus stood before Pilate, the man who had the power to free Him or execute Him, people ridiculed and accused Him, “But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge…”
Instead of reacting angrily or seeking to try to “get even,” God wants us to respond in love telling us in Matthew 5:38 & 39, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”
Do you react when you are wrongly accused, or do you, like Jesus, consciously decide to treat your accusers with love and leave any punishment or vengeance to God?
“God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.” 2 Thessalonians 1:6 & 7
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the courage to not react to false accusations and leave the reaction to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
