Bible Reading: Matthew 27:11
Have you ever played the game “King of the Hill”? One person stands on a hill and the other players try to push or pull the “king” until he is dethroned. The person who
dethrones the “king” becomes the new “king”.
The Bible talks about a real King – Jesus. Jesus is the King of all Kings. After Jesus’ arrest, He was put on trial. Matthew 27:11 tells us a bit about this trial saying, “Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ ‘ Yes, it is as you say,’ Jesus replied.”
Then, in Matthew 28:18, Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Jesus was asserting His rightful position as King of the Jews and King of the world. No thing or no person can dethrone Him, though many have tried.
Some people have tried to give things like drugs, sex, and money the position of “king” of their lives. However, those things have no real power or authority.
Some people have tried to be “king” of their own lives. They claim no one can tell them what to do or how to live; only they have that authority. Sadly, their strength gives out when hard times begin. They don’t have what it takes to cope on their own.
Not even death on the cross could keep Jesus from returning to His throne in Heaven.
Have you made Jesus “King of the Hill” in your life – or are you still trying to hold that ground on your own?
“On his [Jesus’] robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:16
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want Jesus to become the King of my hill (my life). In Jesus’ name. Amen.
