Bible Reading: Philippians 3:8, 9
There’s a story about a poor little girl whose only possession was a broken doll and a small rag that she used as a blanket for her doll.
As she walked past a nativity scene with her mother, the little girl noticed that the Baby Jesus was lying in the manger without a blanket. The little girl took the rag from around her doll and covered Baby Jesus. She didn’t have much – a broken doll and a rag – but she gave up what she had. She gave it up for Jesus.
Philippians 3: 8 & 9 say, “What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ-the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.” Nothing we have is worth more that having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Paul was willing to give up everything to honor the God he served.
How about you? What are you willing to give up for Jesus?
Perhaps a better question might be – Is there anything more important to you than Jesus? If so, how are you going to loosen your grip on that thing that is taking Jesus’ rightful place in your heart?
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” Romans 12:1
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to let go of anything that is taking Jesus’ place in my heart. Whatever I have – including myself – it’s Yours! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
