Bible Reading: Psalm 57:1-5
David wrote Psalm 57 after King Saul’s jealous rage caused him to turn on David. David had lost Saul’s friendship and was being pursued by Saul’s army. David felt alone and
afraid. He felt abandoned by his king and his country.
As a result, David wrote, “Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills [his purpose] for me. He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me; Selah. God sends his love and his faithfulness. I am in the midst of lions; I lie among ravenous beasts – men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.”
Yet, David knew that there was One to whom he could always turn for help. One in whom he could always trust. When the going got tough, David got going – straight to God.
Give your life to God today. When you do, you will be able to know, like David, that you will always have a Friend on your side.
“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want You on my side starting right now. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
