Bible Reading: Romans 6:23
Death seems like such a waste. To our human minds, death is the end of everything that we know. It is hard to fathom that there could be any kind of life after death, let
alone that life could be better than the life we have right now.
The death of our physical bodies isn’t the end. When our physical bodies die, each person will continue to exist in one of two ways.
For the person who has rejected Christ, death continues eternally. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death…” Endless death and separation from God is the punishment for sin.
Thankfully, for those who accept Jesus Christ as his or her Lord and Savior, the death of the physical body leads to eternal life in heaven. Romans 6:23 goes on to say, “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The eternal life that Jesus provides for us not only lasts forever, it is vastly superior to the earthly life we are living now.
* It is sin-free.
* It is disease-free.
* It is pain-free.
* It is heartache-free.
* It is evil-free.
* And – it is cost-free!
All we have to do to claim this perfect, eternal life – this free gift from God – is to tell God that we know we’ve sinned and that we believe that Jesus died for our sins.
Imagine – we don’t have to give up anything in this life to have everything in the next life.
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my [Jesus’] word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me. I want the perfect, eternal life that You are offering me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
