Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:12
Do you remember Popeye? He was that cartoon sailor who ate spinach by the can when he needed an extra boost of strength to get himself out of a jam. Popeye is also
known for his famous statement, “I am what I am and that’s all that I am.”
Popeye was genuine. He was real. Popeye knew what he liked and what he didn’t like. Popeye knew what he was capable of and he also knew his limits. He never pretended to be someone he wasn’t. He was content to be who he was – Popeye the Sailorman.
When Popeye reached the end of his strength, he reached for the one thing – a can of spinach – that would give him the strength he needed to overcome whatever evil was assaulting him.
Do you know who you really are? Are you content to be the person God created you to be? When evil assaults you, do you turn to the one person – God – who can give you the strength you need to overcome it?
The next time you are tempted to boast, remember the words of 2 Corinthians 1:12 in mind – “Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according to worldly wisdom but according to God's grace.” Remember not to boast, but to be genuine, real, authentic, in the way you live your life, living in a way that pleases God and make Him visible to all those around you.
“Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity than one who is crooked in speech and is a fool.” Proverbs 19:1
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the strength to honor you by being me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
