Horn of Salvation

Bible Reading: Luke 1:69

Luke 1:69 says, “He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David.”

“Horn of salvation.” What a strange expression!

What do you think of when you hear the word horn?

Most of us probably think about the part of our car that goes, “beep, beep” or the sharp, pointy things on the heads of animals like goats or oxen.

Horns on an animal, especially an ox, are the tool that the animal uses to exert its strength. Because of that, the Bible uses the horn as a symbol of strength.

The “horn of salvation” in today’s verse refers to Jesus. Jesus is the powerful source of our salvation from sin. The salvation that He offers is perfect and available to anyone who is willing to accept it. Jesus’ salvation is powerful enough to rescue us from any sin that we’ve committed, regardless of how horrible that sin might be. His salvation is so plentiful, that there is salvation for every man, woman, and child who has ever or will ever live on earth.

Have you accepted the perfect, powerful salvation offered to you by Jesus, the “horn of salvation”?

“Therefore he [Jesus] is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” Hebrews 7:25

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to save me from my sin. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
