Bible Reading: John 3:30
Humility doesn’t mean letting other people run all over you. Humility means having a clear idea of who you are, what you are truly capable of, and not trying to be
something that you are not. It means honestly evaluating yourself and being willing to admit that you have flaws and are imperfect. Humility, as a Christian, also means recognizing that, next to Christ, you are nothing. It means that you focus your attention on God and that you do whatever you can to focus the attention of other people on God.
John the Baptist truly understood what it means to be humble. In John 3:30 he said, “He [Jesus] must become greater; I [John the Baptist] must become less.” John realized that to truly be humble, he had to become less noticeable and Jesus had to become more noticeable. John knew that everything that he did and said had to be aimed at getting people to see Jesus and realize that Jesus was the promised Savior, not at attracting attention to himself.
Evaluate your opinion of yourself. Do whatever you need to do to follow John’s example and divert attention from yourself to Christ.
“Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life.” Proverbs 22:4
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You really are the only one worth noticing. I humble myself before You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
