Bible Reading: Ephesians 5:22 - 6:1 & 1 Peter 3
TV shows often times beat up the family. They show kids running the house, parents that are so busy with their own lives that their kids aren’t treated much differently than
pets, wives acting like dictators, and husbands and fathers that are continually put down or “put in their place” by their wives and children. Sometimes it seems funny. Most of the time, it’s very sad.
God has a special plan for families. He created each member of the family to play a special role in the familial relationship. Today’s Bible verses describe the roles of family members like this: “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord…Husbands, love your wives…Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” (Ephesians 5:22, 25a, & 6:1). God knew what He was doing when He created the perfect setting for us to grow, mature, and live.
It’s too bad that we so often think that we know more than God does about what is best for us. Look at the mess that our human pride and self-sufficiency has gotten us into. Families are falling apart!
Go to God’s word and learn what He expects of you as young Christian men and women both now and as you grow older. Plan to use God’s plan for your family life. It will save you much heartache and pain.
“So all of you should live together in peace. Try to understand each other. Love each other like brothers and sisters. Be kind and humble. Don’t do wrong to anyone to pay them back for doing wrong to you. Or don’t insult anyone to pay them back for insulting you. But ask God to bless them. Do this because you yourselves were chosen to receive a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:8 & 9
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want my family to follow Your plan, although it may not be popular. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
