Bible Reading: Mark 10:17
“As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. ‘Good teacher,’ he asked, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’” (Mark 10:17)
What does it mean when someone tells you that you must be saved in order to have eternal life?
To be saved means to be rescued.
You see, we all sin or do things that God disapproves of. We can’t help it. We’re born that way. We have no choice because our natural instinct is to do things our own way, even if our way means rejecting God’s way. Because of our inborn instinct to disobey God, we can’t be with God in heaven. That makes God really sad because He created us so He could be with us forever.
Therefore, God had a plan. He sent His Son, Jesus to die as the punishment for our inability to obey God. Jesus was the only one who could do that because He was the only one to live as a human and perfectly obey God. If we believe that we’ve sinned and Jesus died because of that sin, we can ask God to forgive us for sinning. When we do, God saves us. He rescues us from the control of sin. Then we are able to complete God’s original plan and be with Him in heaven forever.
“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit…” Titus 3:4 & 5
Prayer: Jesus, I’m sorry that my sinned made you so sad. I want to be a part of God’s original plan. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
