God's Family Tree

Bible Reading: Matthew 1:1

Matthew 1 begins, “A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham…” This chapter goes on to list the names of the people in Jesus’ family tree.

God didn’t discriminate when He chose the people to create Jesus’ family tree. God used people from all walks of life. For example: Abraham was a shepherd. David was a king. Rahab was a prostitute. Ruth was a Moabitess (a non-Jewish African woman). Boaz was farmer. Joseph was a carpenter.

God created a custom family tree for Jesus. Each “branch” on that tree was there for a special reason. Each “branch” was used by God to prepare the way for His Son, Jesus, to be born as a human baby, live as a human man, then die in our place as the punishment for our sins. With each “branch”, Jesus’ family tree grew closer to fulfilling the promise of salvation that God first made to Abraham thousands of years ago.

Accept God’s promise of salvation today and let Him graft you into God’s own family tree.

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.” John 1:12 & 13

Prayer: Heavenly Father, save me and add me to Your “family tree.” In Jesus’ name. Amen.
